What Do We Mean By Grief Recovery?

In today’s culture, moving through an intense emotional pain process is so misunderstood and uncomfortable, not just for the griever, but for everyone. No wonder most of us have no idea about how to handle loss.

So, what do we mean by the word “Recovery”? Recovery means many things. Which of these definitions helps you understand what recovery might mean to you?

  • Recovery simply means feeling better
  • Recovery means claiming your circumstances rather than your circumstances claiming you and your happiness.
  • Recovery is finding new meaning in living, without fear of being hurt again.
  • Recovery is being able to enjoy fond memories without having them precipitate feelings of regret or remorse.
  • Recovery is acknowledging that it is perfectly alright to feel sad from time to time and to talk about those feelings no matter how those around you react.
  • Recovery is being able to forgive others when they say or do things based on their lack of knowledge about grief.
  • Recovery is one day realizing that your ability to talk about your loss is indeed healthy and normal.

If you would like to know more about how to navigate through a loss, or a series of losses, and experience recovery based on one or more of the definitions above, I encourage you to attend a 6-week seminar, Recovering From Losses in Life, beginning July 11th at 7:00 PM. Click here for details.
